Committee Chair Descriptions

 

After School Enrichment

This Program offers after school classes for children of all grade levels. Chairs determine class choices, manage vendors, coordinate with school staff, and remain onsite for each session.

 

Ambassadors (Tours)

Chairs are responsible for arranging tours for prospective families and managing any follow up communication.  Chairs should maintain a list of volunteers who are available to give tours.

 

Beautification

The Chair takes care of the existing flower beds and planters around campus. Add plants, shrubs and decorative items seasonally.

 

Book Fair
The Book Fair offers an opportunity for children and parents to purchase books while supporting Maybeury. Chair oversees implementation of Book Fair while working with Library staff and volunteers. Volunteers assist with set-up, working shifts, and take-down of Book Fair.  The Book Fair takes place in the Fall.

 

Community Service

 

 

Donuts with Grownups

Chairs work with the school to advertise and implement a morning donut breakfast event before school for all parents in January (1/15/27). 

 

Facilities

This Chair will work hand in hand with school staff to identify needs for upgrades on campus and collaborate with the Board to allocate funds for improvements.

 

Field Day

Field Day is a chance for the children and teachers to spend an entire morning outside while engaging in team and individual races. Chairs coordinate with staff while promoting the event to parents and children. Chairs assist PE teacher in the execution of the event and volunteer coordination.

 

Fifth Grade Corporation

This program is an opportunity for 5th graders to learn the terms of economics and real business. This committee is child-driven with the help of parent leaders to assist with choosing, advertising, and marketing their product to the Maybeury community. Proceeds are then a donation to the school or a class gift. Meetings take place after school at the discretion of the Chairs.

 

Fifth Grade Farewell & Grad Party
The Chairs and committee members organize and execute all aspects of the Fifth Grade Farewell. This includes a theme, guest speaker, decorations, invitations, programs, certificates, and coordinating volunteers. Chairs work closely with staff and meetings are held throughout the Spring. The graduation ceremony occurs the last week of school in May. The picnic is held outside (weather permitting) on a school day during the week of the Farewell in May.

 

Garden

The Garden Committee aims to provide all Maybeury students the pleasure of planting, growing, harvesting fresh and flavorful food.  The Maybeury Garden is a lively, hands-on, outdoor classroom that enlightens students on the power of nutrition, the plant cycle, weather and climate patterns, and environment stewardship. The Garden Committee coordinates with our community partner, Greater Richmond Fit4Kids, and the Maybeury faculty and staff as well as proposing ideas for expanding and improving the Garden.

 

Hispanic Heritage Night

The Hispanic Heritage Night Committee Chair plans and coordinates our school's annual Hispanic Heritage Night celebration. This roles oversees the event from start to finish by recruiting volunteers, organizing activities and performances, and coordinating food and cultural displays. The chair creates a welcoming, inclusive celebration that highlights the rich cultures, traditions, music, food, and history of Hispanic and Latin American communities while encouraging engagement from the entire school community.

 

Hospitality (Teacher work week lunch, Cafe Cheer, Last Day of School Lunch)

Hospitality Chairs organize the teacher work week lunch, Cafe Cheer, and the last day of school lunch for teachers and staff. Planning for Cafe Cheer requires organizing volunteers to set up, break down, and “staff” the luncheon.

 

International Night

The chair leads the planning and coordination for our school's International Nights, a celebration of the diverse cultures represented within our school community. This roles recruits volunteers, coordinates country displays and cultural activities, and organizes event logistics. The chair helps create an engaging , welcoming experience where students and families can share traditions, food, music, clothing, and customs from around the world while fostering cultural appreciation and community connections 

 

Newcomers (KG Meet and Greet, Hugs and Goodbye Zone, Fall Info Session, Duckling Day)

This committee plans the Kindergarten Meet & Greet as well as organizing the Hugs & Goodbye Zone the first week of school.  During the year they welcome new families to Maybeury. They also plan and execute Duckling Day in the Spring.

 

Mallard Auction 2028

The Mallard Auction is an adult-only event and is the largest fundraiser for our school. Parents enjoy a fun evening out, with live music and food, while bidding on activities and items up for auction. The Chairs of this event will oversee all aspects of this event including venue, music, food, sponsorships, programs, recruiting for items, advertising, and promotion. The Chairs will utilize a large committee of volunteers. 

 

Mallard Fund

The Mallard Fund eliminates the need for child-driven fundraising and sales. The Chair promotes this fund to the parents in the Fall and keeps the school community informed of its progress.

 

Mallard Mall

The Chair coordinates with our school's positive behavior reward store, where students can redeem the points they earn for demonstrating positive behavior for fun prizes and treats. This roles organizes and promotes Volunteer sigh-ups to help run the Mallard Mall throughout the year, monitors inventory, and coordinates the purchase or collecting of rewards. The chair also manages the Mall Mall Amazon Wish List, encouraging donations from families and the community to help keep the store stocked with exciting rewards. 

 

Mallard Running Club

This is a group that meets before school twice weekly to participate in a fun running group.  The Chair is responsible for organizing volunteer parents to help each morning of the running club.

 

MayBOOry

Chairs manage all aspects of this Fall-themed carnival including food trucks, Haunted House, activities, marketing, and volunteers. Chairs work with a large committee to execute this event.

 

May Fair

Chairs are responsible for arranging food truck, activities, and marketing for this Spring family-fun event.

 

School Supplies 

The Chair works closely with the designated school representative to replenish needed items for the supply closet and/or classroom crisis buckets.  The Chair also works with a vendor to offer school supply box sales to families.

 

Spirit Nights

Organizes 5-7 spirit nights per year at local restaurants or businesses.  Helps set up and communicate to the rest of the school via newsletter. Gives the final earnings to the treasurer and a small communication in the newsletter to let school know about the event.

 

Spirit Wear   .

The Chairs design and manage the selling of Maybeury-branded items such as t-shirts, shorts, and sweatshirts throughout the year. 

 

Staff Appreciation/Recognition
This committee works to recognize staff during “special days/weeks” throughout the school year.

 

Talent Show

This event is an opportunity for the children to express their talents. Chairs will manage all aspects of the show including advertising, try-outs, practice times, utilizing the sound system, and creating programs.

                     

Teacher Appreciation
This committee expresses support for our teachers at Maybeury throughout the year. The Chairs, with the assistance of other parent volunteers, provide refreshments once a month for Teacher/Faculty meetings, plan take-home dinners for the teachers after conferences in November, and coordinate Teacher Appreciation Week in May.

 

Wellness

Chair works to create a culture of health among students, teachers, and staff at Maybeury. Past initiatives have included Walk and Bike to School Day, Family Fun and Fitness Nights, Yoga in the Garden, Workout Wednesdays, and more. 

 

Yearbook

The Chairs of the yearbook committee will gather photographs from faculty, teachers, and parents.  They will organize the layout of the yearbook, coordinate with the yearbook vendor, and sell yearbooks to the school community.
